The following examples illustrate STOPS Trade Tracking:

  1. The Portfolio tracks equity, cash, holdings, margin, risk and profit in your trading account. Portfolio data is automatically updated and clearly visible while using STOPS.
Portfolio features:
    • Available cash quickly shows how much unallocated cash is available for trading.
    • Cash shows gross account cash, including margin.
    • Total long and short position margins are shown individually.
    • Percent risk shows current account risk.
    • Equity (sum of cash plus open position holdings).
    • Holdings show total portion of equity allocated to open positions.
    • Percent equity change tracks amount equity has changed from the previous month.
    • Profit currency shows current gross profit, including open positions.
    • Percent profit shows running total of closed position net profit.
    • Alerts configured for percent risk and percent equity change are highlighted in red.
    • Negative values are highlighted in red.

In this example:

  • Account cash is $1,082.50 but available cash is zero due to $3,917.50 margined for long positions and $5,000.00 in short position margin.
  • Account risk, 6.2% has reached alert target and is therefore highlighted in red.
  • Account equity $5,235.00 is sum of $1,082.50 cash plus $4,152.50 in holdings.
  • Account equity has changed 1.1% from last month.
  • Account gross profit is $15,917.50.
  • Account closed position net profit is 20.3%.
  1. The Income / Expense Log provides a convenient location to chronologically record account cash deposits, cash withdrawals, miscellaneous income and expenses.
Income / Expense Log features:
    • Miscellaneous income and expenses can be added for reference only, which are not applied to the account.
    • Account income entered in the log can be optionally deducted before plotting net equity charts, showing only equity from position profit / loss.
    • Income and expense columns are automatically totaled.
    • Transactions are sorted in chronological order.
    • Categories can be assigned to log entries.
    • Category lists are user definable.
    • Entries automatically update portfolio.
    • Entries automatically update open position risk.

In this example:

  • $5,000.00, $1,000.00 and $500.00 cash deposits have been made to the account.
  • $500.00 adjustment, $200.00 dividend, $20.00 interest and $10.00 rebate have been added to the account.
  • $300.00 cash withdrawal has been made from the account.
  • $10.00 service charge has been deducted from the account.
  • $200.00 seminar is listed for reference but is not applied to the account.
  • Totals of $6,500.00 cash deposits, $730.00 miscellaneous income, $300.00 cash withdrawals and $210.00 miscellaneous expenses.
  1. Position monitoring, position details and security pricing are the foundation of STOPS. Position monitoring includes risk targets, profit targets, actual profit and estimated profit. Position details include market or limit buy and sell orders, actual fills and scaling out of positions. Security pricing includes open, low, high and last prices.
Position Monitoring features:
    • Security symbol, name and entry date.
    • Trade type - long or short.
    • Trade status - open or closed.
    • Risk targets - reward / risk ratio, percent open risk, maximum adverse excursion and maximum favorable excursion. See Risk Control.
    • Exit targets - profit currency and breakeven currency. See Exit Analysis.
    • Profit parameters - profit currency, percent profit and estimated percent profit.
    • Risk and Exit Target Alerts.
    • All position data columns can be individually sorted.

Position Detail features:

    • Transaction date.
    • Buy order.
    • Buy fill amount.
    • Sell order.
    • Sell fill amount.
    • Broker commissions.
    • Buy and sell slippage.

In this example:

  • Long position PHHM opened on 8/1/05.
  • Initial market buy order placed on 8/1/05 for $16.95 was filled on same day at $17.27, representing $0.32 slippage and $10.00 broker commission.
  • Initial stop loss, $16.68 order quantity of 250 shares is automatically calculated using reward / risk ratio target and percent risk target.
  • $17.30 sell order for 100 shares placed on 8/2/05 was filled on same day at $17.40, representing $0.10 slippage and $10.00 broker commission.
  • Sell at market order placed on 8/3/05 for remaining shares.
  • Security pricing has been automatically extracted from 7/29/05 through 8/2/05.
  • Current position reward / risk ratio is 2.51, Open risk is 0.1%, maximum adverse excursion is 0.37 and maximum favorable excursion is 0.89.
  • Profit target is $18.04 with breakeven of $17.35.
  • -$2,597.50 or -60.0% gross profit percent account for open position.
  • Estimated profit, calculated from last security price of $16.90 is zero.
  • Breakeven Alert 60005 is active, indicating breakeven target of $17.35 has been reached.

In this example:

  • Long position is opened by purchasing 150 shares on 8/4/05 at $53.70 per share.
  • Position will be closed by scaling out.
  • On 8/5/05, 50 shares are sold at market with a fill of $53.60 resulting in a loss. The trade summary "Buy / Sell - Lose" is selected for the transaction.
  • On 8/8/05, a $55.60 limit order for the remaining 50 shares is issued, resulting in a win at $55.80. The trade summary "Buy / Sell - Win" is selected for the transaction.
  1. The Trading Journal provides a convenient, integrated location for recording free-form trading notes.
Trading Journal features:
    • Free form notes.
    • Individual daily journal notes, identified by date can be attached to each transaction.
    • Reports can optionally include trade journal notes.
